Kybella

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Kybella Work?

The active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule in the human body that helps breakdown and absorb dietary fat. When injected into areas of adipose tissue, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction of fullness. Once they’re destroyed, cells can no longer store fat, so further treatment is not needed once the desired goal is reached.

When Will I See Results?

Results are visible in 30-90 days.

How Long Do Results Last?

“When injected into fat under the chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic, further treatment is not expected.”

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments vary from patient to patient, and the number of sessions will be determined during a consultation. Each treatment session is given at least 1 month apart. On average, people typically need 2-4 sessions.

Will I Need Time To Recover?

Kybella is a non-invasive treatment and normal activity can usually be resumed afterward. Swelling is expected for up to 14 days, but can last longer in some people. Kybella is an injectable treatment; as with any injection, bruising is a possibility. Avoiding blood thinning medications for 5-7 days prior to treatment can help reduce bruising.

How Much Does Kybella Cost?

Most people need at least 2-4 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. The average amount used per treatment is 2-3 vials. Each vial costs $500.

We want to assure our patients that Portland Pain and Spine remains open and actively managing your pain. Medication management is given the highest priority. Our relocation across the hall in the Washington building is complete but requires office renovation before we can accommodate patient visits. Staffing shortages affected our ability to communicate last month, however, this was temporary. Dr. Balog has reached out to all patients but asks that if anyone has additional questions or concerns to contact him at balog@pdxpainandspine.com.
We have updated our phone messaging system to assist with calls. There are now options to speak with a live receptionist, leave messages or speak with our new billing company. Medical record requests can be processed on our website at www.pdxpainandspine.com and are handled by Morgan Records Management. Thank you for your patience during this transition. We look forward to providing you high-quality care as we enter into 2024!

Wishing you all a joyful holiday season.
